Education - Your Secret Weapon to Marketing Success

We've all become sponges for information. Sometimes our insatiable appetite for learning can completely consume our world.

Sometimes I find myself spending what seems to be hours searching for the answer to a specific question, looking for a website that offers a product that just might solve all my business problems or getting lost in series offers that are too good to pass up.

Does this happen to you too?

This is our hunger for information and education. We want to know more. We all have a need to develop our skills so that we can grow our business or find a successful career.

This is a terrific opportunity for you, as a business professional, to offer your services as an educator. You’ve developed a skill or knowledge base envied by and interesting to others. People love to hear about ways they can improve and enhance their knowledge. You have the ability to do that.

Education is a very powerful marketing strategy.

Here's why:
• By offering your expertise in one small area, you save someone a huge amount of time looking for the answer
• People see you as someone in the know. A resource to be trusted.
• You start to build your network very quickly. People see you as a center of influence and someone they want to be associated with.
• You make people's lives easier. Your valuable piece of information may have saved them hours of trying to find what you said in a sentence.

Now, don't you think people will want to stay connected with you over time? What happens when people stay connected with you over time?

Eventually, you build a close enough relationship to do business together. You develop a strong enough network to be considered for a position with just the right company.

What are some ways you can offer your services as subject matter expert or educator in a specific field?

Here are just a few:

Public speaking - an excellent venue for sharing what you know
Newsletter - A terrific means for reaching many people - not just in your town, but all over the world.
Position/White Paper - many times these are technical or strategic in nature. These papers may cover broad topics in business or technology.
E-Zine - similar to a newsletter. May have several articles in one edition.
Advice column - you might be fortunate enough to land a regular column in a publication. This consistent exposure puts you in a position of expertise.
Online discussion groups – a venue to share your expertise through helping answer questions posted to the group. Thousands of people see your answers.

Education will always be in style. People will always want to better themselves through formal and informal means of education.
